Weezer - The Good Life (OZ EP)

I don't know whether to refer to this one as the OZ EP or The Good Life Single. Both are on the album cover, so there's no help there. Regardless of what it's called, this is the best single in the Weezer catalogue, and they have a lot of great singles.

"The Good Life" is a song that I have only come to love more and more as the years go by. I really don't want to be an old man anymore and it has been a year or two since I was out on the floor. The b-sides for this album are among the greatest songs in the Weezer catalogue. "Waiting on You" is a great tortured love song that would have easily fit in with the rest of Pinkerton. "I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams" is both strange and delicious. The lead vocals are sung by indie goddess Rachel Haden, who was already working with Matt Sharp in The Rentals at the time. Bringing a woman in to sing this number was inspired. It would have taken on a completely different meaning if Rivers sang it. It is one of the best pieces of songwriting in the Weezer catalogue, and you owe it to yourself to hear it.

The rest of the EP/single is fleshed out by two tracks from the now legendary live acoustic show at Shorecrest High School (someone at the school won a contest where they could get a band to come play live for them. They chose Weezer). Though these two live acoustic Pinkerton tracks may not seem impressive to the casual listener, they are an amazing document for the hardcore fans. Serious Weezer fans should absolutely own this disc.
