Jonathan Richman - Not So much to be Loved as to Love

Jonathan Richman is one of my very favorites. He just seems to enjoy and appreciate things in a way that is not accessible to mere mortals. His music sounds unbelievably simple, but it hides a deeper complexity. Take a song like "Vincent Van Gogh" which seems like a very childlike understanding of the man's art on the surface ("he loved color and he let it show"). Listen to the song again and you realize that Jonathan Richman may very well be one of the few people on the planet who truly understands the majesty of Van Gogh's work and the madness that brought it into existence. Not So Much to be Loved as to Love is another superb album in a long line of superb Jonathan Richman albums. If you want to improve the very quality of your life, allow me to suggest anything Jonathan Richman has ever done.
