Cake-Fashion Nugget

The first time I heard "The Distance" I knew I had to own this record. There were a few times in my life that I bought an album because of one song. Some of those albums have found their way back into record stores. Cake turned out to be a whole 'nother animal in many ways. Not only were they fusing music in ways that nobody else was doing at the time (or now, for that matter) they crammed a ton of good songs onto Fashion Nugget. They make every little jag work. From the semi hip-hop of "The Distance" to a cover of "I Will Survive" to a country song in "Stickshifts and Safety Belts." A full decade or so later and Cake is still an indescribable immovable force unlike any other band I know.
